BCREA Calls for Urgent Housing Tax Reforms Ahead of Provincial Election to Boost Affordability

In the face of soaring housing costs and an upcoming provincial election, the BC Real Estate Association (BCREA) is making a powerful call for housing tax reform in British Columbia. With a focus on improving affordability and fairness, the BCREA is urging a comprehensive review of taxation policies that have significantly impacted the housing market since 2016.

Vancouver’s housing crisis has been exacerbated by what the Association describes as some of the highest real estate taxes globally, pushing the dream of homeownership out of reach for many residents. The BCREA is advocating for changes to outdated policies such as the Property Transfer Tax (PTT), foreign investment regulations, and the Speculation and Vacancy Tax (SVT), with the goal of creating a more equitable system for all British Columbians.

As the election draws near, the BCREA’s call for reform comes at a critical moment, urging the next provincial government to prioritize housing affordability and fairness for future generations.
