A Love Letter to October in Fernie

October has a special kind of magic in Fernie.

The busy summer days begin to soften, the mornings turn crisp, and the mountains feel a little quieter. There’s a refreshing chill in the air that reminds us change is coming and it’s one of the most beautiful times of year to experience this place.

The golden larches have begun to paint the mountainsides, adding their warm glow to the already stunning landscape while the upper mountains are seeing their first dusting of snow.  The trails become peaceful again, with fewer visitors and more familiar faces. Locals reclaim their favorite paths, enjoying the slower pace and the feeling of having the mountains almost to themselves.

October is also a season of transition. It’s a time when people start thinking ahead, planning for winter, exploring new opportunities and for some, beginning a serious search for a home in Fernie before the snow arrives.

But beyond the seasons and the scenery, October reminds us why Fernie is so special. It’s a place where nature sets the rhythm, where every season brings something new, and where coming home feels like more than just finding a house, it’s finding a lifestyle.

Here’s to October in Fernie: quieter mornings, golden trails, snow dusted mountains and the feeling that something wonderful is just around the corner.
